Specialised GIS applications
Personalised instant alerts triggered by virtual boundaries and sent directly to consumers' smartphones are the new weapon being investigated by retailers, and other organisations, to gain a competitive edge during peak shopping periods; such as the Mega Sale Carnival.
The new approach – made possible through Esri's Geotrigger Service technology – adds location awareness to smartphone apps, allowing timely information to be delivered directly to people when they enter or leave a certain area.
The technology enables organisations to place an invisible perimeter – known as a 'geo-fence' – around a storefront or other area.
It then pushes instant notifications to people's smartphones when they cross the boundary.
For example, this Geotrigger Service can send shoppers targeted vouchers, warn drivers about traffic congestion or provide tourists with city maps.
Ultimately, Esri's Geotrigger Service connects the right people with the right information at the right time and place.
