Celebrating pioneering applications of GIS
The Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award is presented each year by Esri to organisations from across the globe who have demonstrated exceptional innovation through the deployment of GIS technology.
Three Malaysian organisations were recognised in this year’s awards – Royal Malaysian Navy’s National Hydrographic Centre (PHN), SWCorp and the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia (JUPEM).
PHN were recognised for their innovative Marine Spatial Data Infrastructure portal – MyMarine GeoHub – which creates a single point of truth for their marine data and provides reliable insights to support activities ranging from marine wildlife habitat conservation to climate resilience strategies.
Playing a key role in Malaysia’s Coronavirus pandemic response and recovery efforts, JUPEM received the award for their ground-breaking COVID-19 digital hub – which provides a real-time map of daily cases, quarantine centres, lockdown procedures and community demographics.
The third and final Malaysian winner, SWCorp received the award for their innovative technology solution driving more cost-effective and environmentally friendly waste management practices.
