Department of Irrigation & Drainage
As guardian of Malaysia’s water assets, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) aims to efficiently manage the nation’s water resources and promote optimum land utilisation to ensure water security and environmental sustainability.
Originally established to provide irrigation facilities and develop new land for a fledgling rice cultivation industry, the department has grown over eight decades to control and manage a broad range of water portfolios.
Today, DID’s water resources management responsibilities include river basin management and coastal zone, water resources management and hydrology, special projects, flood management, and eco-friendly drainage.
