An agroecological researcher with an innovative mindset, Dr. Sim Choon Cheak strategised Sime Darby Plantation's implementation of Spatial Data Management and Rapid Analytics (SMART).
His role in leading the change management within the organisation gave him the opportunity to introduce automation applications in the plantation lifecycle and facilitate the new integration with the existing platform.
Dr. Sim strongly believes in digital technology capabilities in transforming the plantation sector. In his present position as Principal Agronomist II / Vice President II, he draws on more than fifteen years of experience in oil palm agronomy, to identify gaps in soil survey and suitability, as well as terrain analysis – all by utilising the adopted technology.
By doing so, he has succeeded in upskilling the company’s human resources and upgrading the digital infrastructure.
He is now looking into deploying the SMART system into Sime Darby Plantation’s group that expands across different continents – whilst driving the company’s transition from a static to a dynamic, real-time GIS database.
