Esri Singapore – a key partner and exclusive distributor of the world’s leading geospatial technology – has signed a three-year partnership with the Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), School of Information Technology.

The Partnership targets to: increase the general awareness of spatial concepts; enable joint studies and development of Esri powered applications; and, create internship opportunities for NYP’s final-year IT students.

Under this Partnership, the School of IT is given ArcGIS software licenses installed in their new ArcGIS Lab. These Esri licenses include ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Desktop Extension and ArcGIS Server.

With the new GIS tools, NYP now offers a new specialisation track – Geospatial and Mobile Innovation – starting this April for third-year students under the Diploma in Information Technology.

Managing Director of Esri Singapore, Mr. Leslie Wong said Esri Singapore was delighted to be part of this partnership in grooming expertise and talent in spatial thinking.

“We admire and respect the dedication of NYP’s management and we are excited by the prospect of playing a role in nurturing the best and brightest in NYP,” said Mr Wong.

This geospatial and mobile innovation specialisation track comprises of three GIS related modules which covers the concepts of GIS, geospatial visualisation and a hands-on case study project on geo-mobile innovation.

The other two modules in this specialisation focus more on mobile application development and cloud computing – and will cover the full spectrum of competencies required to design and develop innovative GIS and mobile solutions.
